The end of high school is pretty much here. Everything is coming to an end, all classes, all sports and all the fun I had is coming to an end. Graduation is not something I am nervous of, what I am nervous of is my plan after graduation and that is college. Thinking of my plans after graduation stresses me out, but it will be here as soon as you know it. So I have to be ready and prepared to complete and send in all the things I did for the university I will be attending in fall 2016. I am still deciding which university to attend in fall 2016. Money is the main thing that will determine where I will go to college. Not only am I ready to go to college, but I am excited to meet new people there. There are so many more adventures waiting for me go on after graduation.
Well I know I will be attending a 4-year university after graduation it's just deciding on which one to go too. One preparation that I have made is signing up for the placement test for the Cal State Universities. I will be taking both the english and math placement test on March 19th at CSU Bakersfield. If you want to go to a California State University you must take this test unless you reached a certain standard on a test we took before. Another preparation is scholarships. Right now I am working on scholarships to help pay for my future college tuition. Scholarships are free money, but they take a lot of time and hard work to complete them. The more I get done the more chances I have of winning free money I could use towards my college tuition and any other expenses. All I really have left to do is my exit interview and the rest of my classes. My weebly is getting its finishing touches on it, while I create my powerpoint for the exit interview. Once my powerpoint is finished I need to practice and practice it because I tend to get a little nervous while presenting. The one thing that I am most looking forward too is going to grad night at Disneyland with my friends. I feel that it is going to be so much fun because you are at Disneyland with your friends hanging out. It's special because it will probably be the last time you would hang out or even see your friends. Looking back at senior year it has really been stressful with school and with sports. This year in basketball was not the best for me. The beginning of the season I suffered from a sprained ankle and was out for a while. When I got healthy and back into things, my coach did not give me the chance to prove that I am not hurt anymore. So my playing time was limited and everything went downhill, but I couldn't let that put me down. I moved on and let it go and focused on my school because basketball is just a game.

My break was good. I wish it was longer, so that I could be with my family more. The first semester went by so fast. Just yesterday it felt like the start of the first semester now it is the start of the second semester. The reality hit me very hard, I couldn’t believe it. Time is not on my side because it is flying, next thing that I know I would already be graduating. As first semester is coming to an end , deadlines for a lot of things are also coming to an end. The more I think about the graduation the faster it comes. A side of me is ready to leave and another side of me is not. Being scared to leave high school is normal for high school students without a plan after high school. I’m lucky to have a plan after high school and that plan is to attend a 4 year university.
I had recently got my report card in the mail and my semester GPA went from a 3.29 to a 3.50. The hard work I put in the first semester has paid off. My hardest classes were AVID and physiology, I was worried I wasn’t going to complete these classes. I worked hard and finished them though along with all the rest of my classes. Now I just need to focus on my Exit Interview because that is the next project I need to complete. The more I get done the more time I have for other work such as scholarships. The work is getting more and more challenging for most of my courses. My english class is not that hard, but I consider it another one of my challenging courses because there is a lot of work required for english. For english we have to do the work assigned to us in class like reading a book and answering questions on that book. We also have to do the other work such as the personal website, journals and the exit interview powerpoint. It all has to be done before our exit interview date. From all of the colleges I have applied to I have only heard back from 3. I got accepted to CSU East Bay, Fresno and Stanislaus. I am still waiting to hear back from CSU Sacramento, San Jose, Monterey Bay and Cal Poly. I also applied to UC Santa Cruz and UC Merced. On top of college applications I also have to focus on scholarships and the CSU placement tests. High school should not be c forgotten yet about high either, I still have a lot of work from other classes too. It is like everything is happening all at one time and I am not ready for it. More and more work keeps on being assigned, the more I wait to do one thing, something else needs to be done. Procrastination is one of my biggest problems. The more I procrastinate the more I fall behind on subjects. Another thing is making enough time for college required tasks such as FAFSA, CSU placement tests and scholarships. Once I manage my time correctly I could get most of these assignments done and summitted. It is application time and I am working on CSU applications and UC applications. I have to balance out my time and work because I have applications, scholarships and high school work right now. So as it gets closer to November 30th I get my nervous, but I got most of all my CSU applications done I just need my UC application. I hope I get accepted to most of my CSU colleges I applied for, so I can have options to choose from.
The only classes I am worried about are AVID and English because I have a lot of work for both of those classes. Other than those classes the rest are alright I just need to get a level 4 in most of them. I really need to raise my grade point average because I feel that it is fairly low. I see other students grade point average and they have a 3.4 or higher, but they haven’t taken chemistry or finished algebra 2. Both chemistry and algebra 2 are two classes that colleges require you to take in high school. I have finished both of those classes, but yet I still have a 3.1, I feel that you get a higher GPA from taking easier classes rather than taking the more difficult classes. This is not fair, but the colleges are not going to bother to look at the student that hasn’t even finished the required courses. Another thing that worries me is paying for college, because I do not qualify for a lot of financial aid. So I have to pay for my tuition with loans and scholarships. All the applications I submitted were paid for with a credit card because I did not qualify for any fee waivers. This is motivation to apply for scholarships and try to win free money for my tuition. My parents are still paying for my sister's tuition and she has already graduated from college. I do not want this to happen to me I want to get scholarships so it can be easier to pay for my tuition. We have already started basketball and most of my time is gone after school because I have practice. I still have a little bit of time to finish up any homework I have. This is where time management plays a big role. I might as well practice time management now because it should be mastered by next year when I attend college. I have to save time for my high school because I need to get level 4’s to raise my GPA. I feel like these past months have been the most stressful in my whole high school years. I fear that no college will accept me because of my GPA and my SAT scores weren’t the best. So I pray that I get into most of the colleges I applied for. If I keep working hard and finish all of my work this year than I will have less to worry about. My senior year is finally here and I am already feeling the stress. A lot is expected for seniors this year like college applications, senior projects and completing all your courses to graduate. I want to be better at keeping up with my work this year. Last year I would wait last minute to finish projects or turn in work. I need to overcome always staying on pace and completing my work on time, because it will help me prepare for college next year.
I am lucky I am in AVID because we go over everything that is required for college as a class. I feel that I have an advantage over some other students that do not have AVID. I am at the second week of my senior year and I am on pace as of now. I am on pace because I am doing homework and getting everything turned in on time. It is easy to get off pace and it is hard to get back on pace. My main focus right now at the beginning of the year is my journals and my weebly. My weebly needs a lot of work and so do my journals. I know if I take the time to do it and do it right it will be completed before the deadline. I am excited to complete my weebly because I want it to look and sound perfect. I am also excited for the exit interview part of the project. The thing that I am most looking forward to this year is basketball season. I know that school is before sports, so that is why I need to get on top of all of my work and not fall behind. If I am ahead on most of my work before basketball season then I wouldn’t be stressed when the season arrives. One of my goals for this year is to increase my grade point average. My other goal is to get a lot of scholarships, so it can help me pay for college next year. I know it will help out my parents, so they don’t have to pay too much for me to go to college. The more work I put in to get a level 4 the more easier it will be in the future. I can already feel the stress of this year coming slowly towards me, there is so much work that needs to be completed and more work coming. If I do not complete the work that was recently given to me than more work will be given to me and I will be doing more work that should have already been done with. This is where time management is needed, if you are not managing your time correctly you could fall very far behind. The main thing that keeps me organized is my agenda. I always look at it because it tells in what is due in all my classes. Avid always has a lot things due and a lot of fundraising dates, if I didn’t have an agenda I would be lost. |
